==Known Faults== a common fault with 8440p’s is that the headphone jack buggers up and makes the laptop think theres always something plugged in – which gave the fault of no speakers, i cleaned the jack out with some IPA/Air and it started working ok.

Jack is looking at the laptop and will send it back for spares if required or clear it down to IDW if not.

1901972 Movement passed to workshop 26/09/2013 10:10:55. Warranty: 31/03/2014 MONDELEZ UK LIMITED Movement passed to stores to load the kit to workshop for investigation SN: CZC11272QJ. Turns on for a second then goes straight off. Unable to tell if there is any liquid damage before laptop has been stripped down. It is also missing PCMCI slot cover and marks and dents on the top cover of the screen and missing it's rubber feet. Removed one stick of RAM from underneath the laptop - it turns on, but nothing on the screen or an external display.Tried another known good stick of RAM on it's own in the slot under the laptop - again turns on for a second then goes off. Looks to be a system board issue. Part code from board: SPS 594028-001. I have put this machine in the holding area wainting for a shelf number from stores before I can order the part via warranty: COMSYB-6053 & Rubber Feet: 594092-001 COMMCL-3001 (Unable to test HDU as laptop doesn't power on). (7a) ExpressCard slot bezel which is in the Plastics kit 594091-001. The latch on the battery is also broke on one side, it does hold itself in sufficiently with the remaining latch. RAM tested OK so I replaced system board - still getting same fault. Replaced processor - same fault. I then took one stick of RAM out and laptop would stay on, however the screen is not turning on. Still on-going investigation. Possibly also needs a screen, but may just need re-seating. I am working on this laptop today. order a screen. 1864312 = CZC1059N47 Hp8440. Powers on for a second, then goes off. The fan was disconnected inside the laptop, re-connected it to no avail. The keyboard requires replacing due to something sticky being spilt over it – the keys are sticking on the right hand side. There is also visible liquid damage inside the laptop which has probably damaged the system board. Will need to quote for a keyboard and system board (doesn’t look to have ADP?). Unable to determine if further parts are required until keyboard and system board have been replaced. Screen looks to be OK from the brief moment it did stay powered on. Rubber feet missing, Currently re-seating keyboard. Re-seated keyboard and delete key works OK, however shift keys do not work, please order a new keyboard via warranty. 250Gig hard drive tested OK. Also battery is not holding charge (error message when turning laptop on saying it has come to the end of it’s life – only in warranty if under a year old).
