Small little blade. Just press a button down to slide the lid off. (Support usually shut them down ready for you).
Hot Swap Hard Drives: Bay#2 = bottom drive (or if it was laid flat left hand side).

==Parts==
•COMSYB-5915 = System board (G1). When swapped and not powering on (The button is now lit green), but pressing it does noting. Waited a while, pressed it again and it came to life. (I didn't need a screen or have to put the SN or anything in for the one I did on ref: 2486664) *Two tabs on either side to press to get the metal place off where the hdd's go to get to the processors underneath (Be careful not to knock the processor bed pins).
•HPAPCB-5546 = 670026-001 SPS-CONTROLLER SA P220I INTEL BL DC (Gen8).
•HPABAT-3053 = 660092-001 SPS-CA CAPACITOR 24IN FL. (Battery on a 24inch cable). or • COMCMP-7877 = - 660091-001 SPS-CA CAPACITOR 12IN FL. (Battery on a shorter 12inch cable). (Does not require any tools, but takes 10-15 mins to charge up before fault error re-sets). (It does start to flash red again a few mins after being powered back up, but just wait).
• HPAPCB-5572 = 684370-001 G8 512MB FBWC MODULE. (The little card that sits ontop of the board that the battery plugs into) (Requires a torqs screwdriver, but can usually unscrew it with a little flat blade). Not sure why, but they keep sending this part instead of a battery previous Unity job refs: 2487841, 2469988 & 2468377 & 2367267.

All 3 parts swapped out @21:40 and we booted back up but Health LED was flashing red and as per john.brines@bt.com HDD was showing failed. We re-booted server and put the original drive back in - shows as failed. Re-booted again with "new" Intel disc - started to re-build but then failed. John advised maybe it does not like the intel disk? I also noticed the replacement disk was not brand new - has been used before as it had marks on the case. John has asked if we can re-order another brand new disk and re-schedule for another time (no down-time required to swap the disk as it's hot-swap). Left site @ 02/03/2022 22:04:00. [‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:28] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: looks like its on the cache module itself, possibly under the hard drive cage
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00712276.pdf
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:29] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: I didn't think I would have to strip it down that much but looks like I do. OK I'll see if can get it to bits.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:30] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: yeah thats the clip on battery, actual part number is 307132-001 might be part of hdd backplane
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:34] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: erm... might be being blind, took hard drive enclosure out, still can't see it? It says in the manual "Optional " So guessing it's not got one?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:41] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: yes it would be it should be on the cache module.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:43] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: 407458-001 is the SMART ARRAY E200I INTEGRATED ON HARD DRIVE BACKPLANE .
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:44] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: yes and the cache plugs into that board and the battery clips to it.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:44] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Its got like a RAM expansion card plugged in. 412800-001 But no battery ?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:45] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: unplug it and battery should clip onto it. ah is this connected to a storage unit, a half height SB40?
could be cache battery in the storage unit, as that has a smart controller
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:46] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Must be. its not in this blade.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:46] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Where will I find that?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:46] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: no where the blade goes into the enclosure there might be a partner storage unit
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:47] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: C7000 enclosure, PSU's across the bottom.....
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:47] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: yes, the server is half height which bay did that slide into
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:48] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: 6th accross this blade is from.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:48] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: ok so the partner bay 5 possibly?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:48] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: There all baldes exactly the same as this one. Will they be different inside then? Possibly?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:49] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: no shouldnt be
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:49] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: ? Im lost now then. There's no where else in this cabinet that would have a battery in it ?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:49] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: are they connected out the back via a SAS connection to a storage unit
msa unit / msa 20? is there any disk shelfs in the front either above of below the enclosure
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:52] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: no. Just the C7000 enclosure. There's another 2 cabinets across, but that's locked too so can't really tell.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:53] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: the battery should clip onto the cache module, but strange if there isnt one
unless they have just noticed its not on after a reboot
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:55] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: put it back together and have you got console connectivity to it? it might never have had a battery on.
they rebooted it and noticed cache is disabled. it will be with no battery installed
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:57] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: No it's not coming back to life yet. Do you need to hold the power button for x time or something ? Or just wait ?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:58] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: it may take a bit to power on, they have to do some checks before it will power up
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:59] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Bit worried now. No lights or anything :(
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:59] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: should show an orange light
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:59] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: no nothing at all :(
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:00] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: does it show on enclosure screen light green where bay 6 is silly question, it is clipped in properly
seated into enclosure
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:01] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Just took it out and checking everything I took out is back in properly...
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:03] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: any lights now?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:06] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Nahh. Its dead.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:06] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: oops. no amber light? is the enclosure display showing it plugged in
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:07] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Enclosure display looks like a zx spectrum game loading - screen is flashing on and off and all multicoloured lines all over it.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:07] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: that doesnt sonund good no screen display at all
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:09] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: no. Sorry took it to bits again, put it all back together, it's just not coming back to life. The display on the enclosure is un-readable.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:09] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: anyone there that can see the onboard administrator? see what it says for bay 6?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:14] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Just been to see security bloke at the desk. Everyone went home at 5.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:15] Wright,P,Paul,NKA425 R: we could try it in my enclosure in training room.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:17] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: OK so everyone here has gone home at 5pm. Security guy doesn't know where the key to the MSA cage would be. I will leave battery on-site. Also see if we can get a new blade ordered as this one has died on me and not powering back on.
Want me to bring it back with me?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:06] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: The server has died on me :(
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:06] Singh,T,Tanpreet,TNA33 R: Ok.. do you have case?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:07] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: is this CC646040 / 2421679 for tpl006a011
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:10] Singh,T,Tanpreet,TNA33 R: vendor case has been for cache battery replacement, Abiodun Akinshipo is working on the case CC646040
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:12] Singh,T,Tanpreet,TNA33 R: vendor case has been raised* for cache battery replacement
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:19] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Taking blade back to Barlborough for Paul Wright to look at (it's dead though) so not sure what he wants to try?
Are you dealing with the server battery @ Tinsley? Im on-site now. Am I OK to power the server off?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:15] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R:
Hi Gareth
is this CC646040 / 2421679 for tpl006a011 [‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:17] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R:
Yes thats it.
Its all lit up at the moment (Says down on the ticket)
can I just pull it out ?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:17] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: yes, the server is down waiting for a rebuild
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:21] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R:erm... I might be being thick. But can't see where the battery is?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:22] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: it's the cache module on the storage controller that has failed
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:22] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Where will I find the storage controller?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:23] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: I don't know, it may be worth checking with Paul Wright
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:24] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: I think it is a plugin module on the system board on some of these servers
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:39] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Spoke to Paul, Stripped server down to find it. Still can't see it ? It says in the manual "Optional "
So guessing it's not got one?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:41] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: That's strange, because there was a note in the case that showed the cache status was OK at one point
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:43] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: I guess if it isn't fitted, you can't replace it and we'll have to send the case back. Is it possible to fit the part you have because without the cache module we are unable to get round the disk mirroring problem
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:53] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Paul says: "are they connected out the back via a SAS connection to a storage unit
msa unit / msa 20? "
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:56] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: the case notes show Smart Array E200i in slot 0
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 16:58] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Paul says "have you got console connectivity to it?
it might never have had a battery on. they rebooted it and noticed cache is disabled. "
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:01] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: I only got involved in the case when they wanted the battery replaced because they were unable to run disk configuration commands on the controller due to the battery status
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:02] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: the case notes don't show the full output of the hpacucli commands
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:06] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: Bad news. The blade has died on me. I've put it back in the enclosure but it's not powering back on.
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:08] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: not good (although it has been down for a while anyway by the looks of the case notes)
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:09] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R: can you get a new blade ordered if you can't fix it
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:10] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R: So do I still need to find the MSA ?
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:11] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R:
my colleague has indicated that we need a working cache module to be able to configure mirrored disks
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:12] Abrahams,P,Paul,TNA33 R:
one of the reasons they have problems is that the root disk wasn't mirrored and they encountered disk problems, so nothing to boot from
[‎06/‎06/‎2019 17:17] Phillips,G,Gareth,NKA318 R:
OK so everyone here has gone home at 5pm. Security guy doesn't know where the key to the MSA cage would be. I will leave battery on-site. Also see if we can get a new blade ordered as this one has died on me and not powering back on.

I swapped the components; RAM etc into the replacement blade (HPASRV-3144) and replaced it without disks as per Kyle however it looks to be DOA. Just getting a red flashing LED (Pulse LED, as soon as the blade is pushed into the enclosure). It does not power up. I have put the original blade back in in without disks and that powers up OK and can see POST messages etc on the screen. As per Kyle I have put the original server back in with both disks and get "Attempting to boot from NIC" over and over again - does not boot. (One of the disks has a solid amber LED lit). As per Kyle I removed one of the drives (the one with the solid amber LED) but it still does the same: "Attempting to boot from NIC" then re-boots. Pushed other drive in and removed other - still same. (So looks like neither disk has an OS on it?). Kyle was asking my opinion on rebuilding the raid etc and things that I have had no experience with and explained to him it was rare that I worked on servers and mostly covered Viper jobs day to day. I have no issue with the hardware side of things. It's the operating system and RAID etc that I have had very limited exposure to. I Tried to contact tech support: jun.penalver@bt.com but he is in a meeting and unable to help. I spoke to Dave Brown who agrees the replacement blade is probably DOA and to leave site and return it, but leave the two new disks on-site. By this time Kyle was no longer responding on skype and as there was no phone signal either and after speaking with tech support and them saying that there wasn't anything further that could be done I did not know I had to speak to anyone else before I left (Historically Barlborough has always dealt with the customer after the fact, but I can make sure someone can get a message to them in the future if my attempts fail). The faulty server has been returned to Barlborough via Pelipod on Ref: D~9103615701.

Wrigley_andrew@hotmail.com / andrew.wrigley(No loger with BT) from Bristol. right so the plan is to re-seat the offending VC module we shouldn't need to reboot any blades ... so the blades are in a chassis if each blade had 4 nic's you'd need 4*16 = 64 network connections per chassis the VC modules consolidate those network connections down to a much smaller number we configure things such that each blade's networking is pathed out through 2 VC modules such that if one dies - that network connection carries on through the "other" VC module so thats the plan - does that help clarify things ? so now I have to map the MAC address of the offeding NIC through to the right VC module. This system handles the part of the phone call that looks up your account to see if you still have credit so its integral for people to make phone calls using EE and did it all live - no disruption to traffic [Sleep Over] I re-seated the virtual connect module as requested however the alarm did not clear. As the server was carrying traffic they had to migrate the VM's off the blade (Which took a very long time). I was then asked to re-seat the blade after they had moved 7 VM's. Finally they advised all was OK. Call can be closed.
