Reflections on Christmas 2015

This Christmastide, this holy and magical season, all who dare to imagine upon a stable set in Bethlehem will see (by God’s wondrous light) a stairway’ there!

You will see, just as Jacob did, (at the place that was called Luz at the first), 'a ladder’ set on the ground and reaching all the way to the sky with the angels of God going up and going down on it…’ (Genesis 28.12–22).

The Christian faith urges us to journey, to live, by the Special Light that reveals this ladder of God’s intense involvement with the world and your life.

For, on this and at every Christmas, the story of the babe born in Bethlehem shows that God abides with all those who, like Jacob vow to travel by this ‘incredible, wondrous and holy’ Light.

The poetic opening to John’s gospel gives us a sense of the very ‘magic,’ the ‘wisdom’ of this guiding Light. No darkness, says the good news of John, can defeat this ‘Light.’ It is a Light that gives life to all who come into it!
