Dad with the snails

I mentioned the snails to Dad, and walked back to them to look at them more. I mentioned to him how curious it is that the snails' slime trails were not consistent, solid lines (but were broken lines). And I saw then that he stood some distance away from me down the path, for, I suppose, he had kept walking on the path for a short while as I spoke to him and then I added some distance between us when I walked back to the snails. I was surprised by that he didn't readily walk over to where I was, but shortly he did and now he seemed to be considering the snails too. He then mentioned to me that the snails on the path might get squished by walkers and that the path, now in the sun, might be too hot for them, and at this he bent over and picked up two snails by their shells, one after the other, and put them on the shady side of the path, which they seemed to be headed towards. He did this so readily that it was as though he does this quite often, and his readiness and deftness in doing so surprised me.
