Hotspot FAQ
Use build a pi v3 or later to install HotSpot Tools
If you have questions about how the hotspot works and how it is used, please see the in depth video
No. SSID's should not contain special characters like ' or a space. You should only use letters and numbers for the Pi SSID or the SSID that your pi will connect to.
This is normal behavior while the hotspot mode is active. Open Hot Spot Tools and disable the hotspot. I recommend seeing this in depth video or this Quick Tip video.
You can view all of your current hotspot variables at the top of HotSpot Tools
If you are running the build-a-pi setup, it will run the hotspot every 5 minutes to check for connections. If it sees a known SSID, it will connect to it. If not, it will create a hotspot that you can connect to with another wireless device. You can change how often it runs using HotSpot Tools.
Sure. Open Hot Spot Tools and click Run HotSpot Check
The hotspot will not work with hidden SSID's.
Make sure that your SSID doesn't contain a space. Easy fix is to replace the space with a "-" If you SSID is "my wifi" then change it to "my-wifi" and it should connect.
The SSID information is contained in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
. Use the nano editor to edit the file with sudo nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
Save and exit with ctrl+x then y and then enter on the keyboard
