Hwang Ui-jo, Taegeuk-marked forever... Police "have solid evidence"

In response to the controversy over the alleged second victimization of soccer international Hwang Eui-jo (31-Norwich City), who is being investigated for illegal filming, police are keeping a wide range of possibilities open to see if there are any criminal charges.

An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said this at a regular press conference on Thursday when asked if Hwang's side was investigating the victim for any specific behavior.

"If (Hwang's law firm) or Hwang himself is responsible for the secondary victimization, we will investigate that part extensively," the official said.

Earlier, the law firm representing Hwang had claimed in a statement on March 22 that the alleged illegal filming was "consensual," noting that "the other woman is a public figure who is active in broadcasting and is married," raising criticism of secondary victimization by revealing identifying information about the victim.

As for Hwang's alleged illegal filming, the police explained, "We have almost completed digital forensics and are continuing to investigate those involved," adding, "We plan to investigate further against Hwang by requesting his attendance as soon as the schedule is coordinated."

The police also claimed that Hwang's brother, who was sent to the prosecutor's office on suspicion of distributing the video on social networking services (SNS), was innocent of the charges under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.

The police official emphasized, "We cannot disclose specifics as the investigation is ongoing, but we have secured good and solid evidence."
