Jamaican PM proposes casino-related legislation
Jamaica's prime minister has kept his promise and introduced legislation to parliament to legalize casino gambling on the island. The legislation continues to be controversial in Jamaica, with opponents saying casino gambling will "destroy social fraud." However, supporters are touting the stimulus measures casinos can bring to combat the extreme poverty many residents are experiencing.
Two situations are already unfolding that they hope will pass the bill. It promised to issue a casino license to the $5 billion Harmony Cove resort in Trelawney and a casino license to Jamaica Celebration for its resort project in St. James.
