Supporting Kinship Caregivers Podcast Series

We know that the life of a child welfare professional is fast-paced and hectic and that it's essential to be able to build your knowledge on the go. The Child Welfare Information Gateway podcast series, which we produced on behalf of the Children's Bureau, allows professionals to listen and learn while in the car, at the gym, or anywhere else where they can multitask. The first of the two-part podcast series, titled "Supporting Kinship Caregivers," showcases successful examples of kinship navigator programs connecting kinship families with available services.

Approximately one-fourth of children in out-of-home care live with relatives. Because kinship caregivers can be the primary resource for maintaining family connections following a child's removal from their birth parents, it is essential to provide them with the support and resources they need. This podcast series is designed to help child welfare professionals understand kinship navigator programs, which help kinship caregivers identify and access appropriate and meaningful services. These podcasts were produced in conjunction with this year's National Foster Care Month (NFCM). The theme of this year's NFCM, "Empowering Caregivers, Strengthening Families," honors the sacrifices made by resource families.
