Taking discriminatory entry restrictions aimed at China"

Chinese authorities say they will take "mutual action" on cases of foreigners entering China. After COVID-19, Chinese travelers are currently facing entry restrictions in their destination countries, despite official Chinese reports that they have passed the peak of the infection wave to witness a drop in COVID-19 cases.

Response Action:

This was the reason for the recent suspension of visas for South Korean and Japanese tourists seeking to visit China, the first response taken by Chinese authorities to countries imposing COVID-19 requirements on Chinese visitors. China's foreign ministry said the countries concerned should "make sure that the COVID-19 response measures are fact-based, science-based and proportional" and that they "should not be discriminatory and should not affect normal cross-border travel."

Best location in Macau:

Such reciprocal action could affect Chinese gambling trips to Korean casinos during the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, increasing visits to less stringent regions such as Macau and the Philippines. Macau appears to be in the best position ahead of the Spring Festival event on Jan. 8, as it lifted all test requirements for arrivals from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also said the government will not impose travel restrictions on Chinese travelers.

Singapore and Vietnam are lifting and resuming COVID-related border restrictions and increasing flights to mainland China as the Chinese New Year approaches. On the other hand, Malaysia plans to set up a separate arrival hall for travelers from China and implement rapid antigen tests and quarantine measures for suspected patients.

Zero policy has fueled economic growth:

China has recently begun opening up, but continues to implement its COVID-19 zero policy. "It was because of the dynamic zero-corona policy that China recorded positive economic growth for the first time in the world in 2020," a ministry spokesman justified the three-year-old policy. "The COVID-19 situation in China is improving and some provinces and cities have suffered infection peaks," the spokesman added

CNY brings economic benefits:

But while countries such as Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines prefer to conduct thorough inspections of Chinese visitors ahead of the holidays, countries that conduct such inspections for Chinese visitors prefer to balance these measures.
