Sands China Announces 'Discretionary and Wage Adjustment'

Macau, Sands China Ltd (1928: Hong Kong) said Friday that it has paid all eligible employees a discretionary bonus equivalent to a month's wages.

Las Vegas Sands, the U.S. casino giant, declared on its last day that it would pay bonuses, saying, "In recognition of their contributions, there is no sum stated in the document."

Sands China also announced that all eligible team members can expect pay increases. Sands China went on to say that 99% of the company's approximately 28,000 employees would benefit from the pay rise.

According to a press release, all eligible full-time employees of the company who earn up to MOP13,000 (US$1,609) will receive a monthly wage increase of 600 MOP. Sands reportedly said this would mean increases between 4.6% and 6.0% of employees in that particular wage bracket.

According to Sands China, eligible workers with a salary of MOP13,000 or more at the company led by Sheldon Adelson will receive an average increase of 2.5 percent.

The Hong Kong-listed company responsible for The Venetian Macao, Sands Macao and The Parisian Macao properties is the fifth Macao company to publicly announce employee bonuses this year. But it was the first of six companies in the former Portuguese enclave to officially announce a pay rise.

Winn Macao Limited just announced that 96 percent of the 13,500 qualified employees working at its Winn Palace Cotai and Winn Macao integrated casino resort will receive a "winter bonus" equivalent to a month's salary.

"Sands China is very happy to announce discretionary bonuses and pay adjustments for our team members. Our team members are the company's biggest asset and key to our success, and we truly appreciate all of them for their contributions."

The company said, "Non-management workers who have joined the company for more than a year will receive discretionary bonuses, and all executives will receive incentives in accordance with the company's 'management incentive plan'."
