"Win, you can do it!"
On the 23rd (Sunday), the U12 national team's training to prepare for the KBL youth tournament was held at Songpa Samsung's Little Thunder Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul. They are working together in a sweat at the newly opened Songpa Samsung Gymnasium by Lee Na-nam, head of Gangnam Samsung.
The Gangnam Samsung U12 national team won numerous championships both at home and abroad by launching a tall lineup last year. Students who were born in 2011 will go to middle school and younger ones who were born in 2012 will take over Barton to continue their fame.
This year's U12 national team without clear ace resources such as Kim Yoo-chan and Kang Hyun-mook, but they beat other Samsung branches in the KBL tournament's selection match, the Little Thunder Cup, and headed to Yanggu as Samsung's representative in the U12 division this season, raising the satisfaction of the coaching staff with rapid growth.
"Last year's national team members were so good that we had low expectations this season, but seeing their growth, I think we can raise our goal (laughs). I have a lot of big players and I am satisfied with the growth of the previous players," said Lee Na-nam.
What is the difference between the players of this year's national team, who are raising their team's expectations with rapid growth?
Cha Si-hyun (Dongsan Elementary School 6/F), who firmly protects his team's goal, said, "The older members were much stronger and bigger than us. Compared to the older members, we are mentally weak and have ups and downs. However, the director complimented us that we are technically better than the older members. If we make up for what we lack, we will be able to win like the older members."
Gangnam Samsung, which focuses on attack through fast transition and pattern play starting from end-line and sideline, will speed up preparation for the tournament by refining its press and team defense from next week.
Kim Seung-ki (Foil Elementary School 6/G) responded by saying, "They want guards to take the ball when they grab the rebound and deploy the ball quickly, and big men to put the ball in the right place when they run. They are practicing the preparation process to play fast. I want to renew my defense and win the competition from next week."
The common goal of "defending champion" Gangnam Samsung's Kim Seung-ki and Cha Si-hyun is definitely to win. Having set their initial goal as the semifinals, they set their goal as an upgraded winner by matching hands and feet through training.
"I have some shortcomings right now, but if I do my best during the rest of the year, I think I will be able to win the championship. I want to do better so that I can stand out better than other team players," Kim said.
Cha Si-hyun said, "I think there is something more nerve-wracking about the KBL competition than other competitions. As much as I am nervous, I will focus on the basics and my goal is to win the championship. My personal goal is to get rid of ups and downs and become a player who contributes to my team."
