"Kang-in, it's your first time in Germany, right?"...Dortmund MF challenges Lee Kang-in in Korean

Ahead of their clash with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Borussia Dortmund's young midfielder Giovanni Reina sent a message to Lee Kang-in in Korean.

Borussia Dortmund's official 'Naver TV' channel posted a video titled "'Kang-in, look forward to the second leg!' Dortmund's No. 7's determination" on March 13 (KST).

The player in the video is Raina, an American midfielder born in 2002 who wears the number 7 for Dortmund. After coming up through the Dortmund youth ranks, Reyna made his first-team debut in the 2019/20 season and has 17 goals and 16 assists in 115 first-team appearances to date.

In 2020/21, he scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 46 appearances and was touted as Dortmund's future, but his progress slowed as frequent injuries limited his starting opportunities. This season, he played just eight games due to a foot injury. Of those eight games, he has made just two starts and has yet to score his first offensive point of the season.

Meanwhile, Reina has caught the eye by sending a message to Lee ahead of their clash with PSG. Dortmund will host PSG at the Zignale Iduna Park on Thursday at 5:00 a.m. in the sixth leg of their 2023/24 UEFA Champions League Group F tie.

Ahead of the match, Reina sent a message to Lee in Korean. Her pronunciation was awkward due to her unfamiliarity with Korean, but Reina did her best and said, "Kang-in, it's your first time in Germany, right? I'm looking forward to the second game!"

Korean fans who watched the video were surprised that the Dortmund player was able to send a message to Lee in Korean, but praised Reyna's effort in delivering her prepared message in Korean.

However, some fans pointed out that she was speaking back to Lee. Reina, who was born in 2002, inadvertently spoke back to her one-year-old brother, Lee Kang-in (born in 2001), by calling him "Kang-in-ah".

According to Reina, this is Lee's first time traveling to Germany. He participated in the Champions League in the 2019/20 season while playing for Valencia in the Spanish La Liga and reached the round of 16, but never faced a Bundesliga team.

Ahead of the final Champions League group stage match, Lee flew to Germany with his teammates after being included in PSG's roster to face Dortmund. With only a few hours to go until kickoff, fans were eager to see if he would start in the crucial match against Dortmund.

This season, PSG were drawn in Group F, the 'Group of Death', alongside Dortmund, AC Milan, and Newcastle United. With only the final group game remaining, Dortmund (10 points) are top of Group F and have already qualified for the round of 16. Dortmund is followed by PSG (7 points), Newcastle (5 points), and Milan (5 points). In Game 6, PSG traveled to Dortmund, while Newcastle hosted Milan. If PSG can take all three points in Germany, they will not only advance to the round of 16, but also clinch first place in Group F.

If PSG wins, PSG and Dortmund will be tied on 10 points, but the winner-takes-all rule means that PSG, having won both head-to-head matches, will move into first place over Dortmund. PSG defeated Dortmund 2-0 at home in the first leg of their last group match.

However, with a draw, PSG will have to hope that Milan beats Newcastle. A loss to Dortmund would require a Newcastle-Milan draw to reach the round of 16. To reach the round of 16 on their own, PSG will need to take three points against Dortmund, but it's an away game, and with Dortmund already guaranteed a spot in the round of 16 and looking to top Group F for seeding purposes, the winner is hard to predict.

Ahead of one of PSG's most important games of the season, many local media outlets have tipped Lee to start against Dortmund. However, Ousmane Dembele's absence was confirmed after he received a one-match suspension for accumulating three yellow cards in the last five group games.

The number of strikers available to PSG was also limited by the fact that Gonzalo Higuain, the Portuguese striker who inspired Lee to join the club, did not travel to Dortmund with the flu.

As a result, Kylian Mbappe, Lee Kang-In, Leroy Sane, Kolo Moani, and Bradley Barca are the only first-team attackers PSG could start in their final group game against Dortmund.

Le Parisien predicts that Lee Kang-In will be deployed as a right winger in a 4-3-3 formation, forming a front three alongside Kylian Mbappe and Kolo Moani. Conversely, RMC Sports predicted that Barca, who scored in the previous match, would start, with Lee and Kolo Moani competing for the right winger spot.

Lee made a brief appearance as a second-half substitute in the first leg against Dortmund at home in September. Since then, the young PSG first-team regular has settled in, and it will be interesting to see if he can respond to Reina's message by starting the first game of his career against Germany.
