Moving forward again toward the Rookie of the Year

Skins started an away match against the Atlanta Braves of the 2024 Major League Baseball at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia on the 30th (Korea time) and recorded six hits (one homer) and two walks, nine strikeouts and one run in six innings.

The only loss was a homer that he hit right after the start. In the top of the first inning, a 98.4-mile (158.3 kilometer) four-seam fastball pitched high on Jared Kellnick, the first batter, leading to a homer over the right fence. He seemed to be shaking after being hit by Ozzy Albies, but he gave a double play to Marcell Ozuna, and struck out Matt Olson to end the inning.

Skins faced another crisis in the third inning, after allowing three outs in the second inning. With one out, he gave a hit, a walk, and a walk, creating a crisis with the bases loaded. However, he caught Oh with a double play and put out the fire.

Skins, who blocked well in the third inning, had consecutive hits in the top of the fourth inning, and faltered again. Again, he displayed crisis management capability. He struck out Forest Wall and hit Adam Duvall to first base to delete the inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, when the score was 1-1, he faced a crisis with two outs and second base, but he came off the mound after striking out Oh Ju-na.

The top of the sixth inning was overwhelming. Olsen, Austin Riley, and Travis d'Arnaud struck out three times in a row.

That was it for Skins. He replaced Carmen Mozinsky in the seventh inning and finished the game.

He pitched 102 pitches. His maximum speed was 99 miles (159.3 kilometers). However, he failed to win as he failed to receive scoring support.

He was drafted first in the first round of the Major League Rookie Draft last year and made his professional debut. Pittsburgh gave Skins 9.2 million U.S. dollars, the highest down payment ever for a rookie in the Major League. And it is living up to his expectations. When he recorded an impressive 0.99 ERA in 27 ⅓ innings in seven Triple-A games this year, he immediately got a big league call-up.

In his first big league debut game against the Chicago Cubs on April 12, Skins allowed three runs (three earned) in four innings, but showed only one poor performance. Since then, he has made quality starts in all three appearances in May.

He is continuing the good trend in June. Having won his third game by allowing three runs (three earned) in five innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his first game in June, Skins pitched six scoreless innings, the longest innings since his debut against the St. Louis Cardinals. He then garnered his fourth win of the season by allowing one run in six innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

After pitching his first seven innings in the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, but failing to secure victory, Skins was unfortunately unable to become a winning pitcher again on the day. However, he has displayed quality start pitching in four consecutive games except the first one in June, and is making strides toward becoming the Rookie of the Year.
