"Drawing various pictures after retirement, and recently changed his priorities."

Kim Yeon-kyung (Hung Kook Life), a "volleyball empress" who is nearing the end of her career, slightly expressed her intention to challenge as a "leader."

Kim Yeon-kyung, who is training in Shanghai, China, said in an interview with the Korea Foundation on the 27th, "I'm drawing various pictures about life after retirement, and my priorities have changed recently," adding, "If I used to be at the bottom of my mind to be a leader after retirement, I've recently come up with the idea of being a leader who teaches players directly and leads the team."

Kim Yeon-koung added, "Originally, the priority was that I wanted to do something as a volleyball administrator and sports administrator. But recently, I thought there would be a lot of things that can be changed in the field."

People around her seem to be dissuaded by the myth that it is difficult for a former superstar to succeed as a leader. However, Kim said, "I don't care about such myths. People around me pay a lot of attention to me and say, 'At best, I have to be a leader.' "When I go to Fukuoka, Japan, and watch the VNL in person, and the 2024 Paris Olympics, I came to think again, 'Is this the right place for me?'" Kim said.

Kim Yeon-koung, who was born in 1988 and passes the twilight years as a female volleyball player, is drawing attention every season as to whether she will retire or not. "Nothing has been decided (whether she will retire or not), and everyone around her is against her," Kim said.

Kim is still at the top level in Korea. She has been named the MVP of the regular league for two consecutive seasons, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, and will prepare for the 2024-2025 season as an active player.

During the off-season, Kim was busy carrying out various schedules. She had a retirement ceremony led by the KYK Foundation that she founded, and went to the Paris Olympics as 12 goodwill ambassadors selected by the FIVB. "I had the idea while promoting the World All-Star Game," Kim said. "I was able to participate in the national team's retirement ceremony because I raised something that I wanted to do by myself, so I was able to join the team with my teammates. It was good that it ended successfully. My sisters also thanked me a lot."

Kim Yeon-koung, who is training in Shanghai, where she worked for the 2017-2018 season and the 2021-2022 season, did not hide her desire to win the title. Heungkuk Life Insurance finished second in the championship game for two consecutive seasons. "Knowing the sweetness of winning, I had a greater desire to win the title," Kim said. "It was even more regrettable that I finished second for two consecutive seasons," Kim said. "Now, I think I want to enjoy it rather than obsessing about winning the title. Rather, I think I can get better results if I enjoy it."

Kim Yeon-kyung continued, "Winning is based on how much effort we have made during the off-season, so it's good if the finish bears fruit with winning," adding, "The club has been increasing the number of staff and providing a lot of support this year. As much as the club desperately wants to win, the determination to do its best remains unchanged."
