Lavarini, Gudetti and Olympic women's volleyball coach Jihanpa are all 'cloudy'

Both men's and women's volleyball teams that advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics have been decided. In the meantime, the two coaches who are famous in the international volleyball community as "Ji Han-pa" also completed their schedules.

The main characters are Giovanni Gudetti and Stefano Lavarini. Gudetti, the coach of the Serbian women's volleyball team, played with France, the U.S., and China, the host countries, in Group A at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Serbia had one win and two losses four points to rank third in its group league, but advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Japan 1 win, two losses and three points, which is ranked third in Group B. However, Serbia, which had Tiana Voskovic, one of the world's leading apogit spikers, failed to surpass Italy, which met in the quarterfinals.

Serbia lost to Italy 0-3 24-26 20-25 20-25 in the quarterfinals on the 6th local time. "Jupo" Boskovic scored 19 points and tried hard to stop the team's defeat.

For Guidetti, he stopped at the quarterfinals for the second consecutive Olympics following the Tokyo Olympics. Lavarini, who gained international recognition by making it to the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics, made his best debut as a member of the Polish women's team. Poland aimed to achieve the quarterfinals or higher, but the Polish or Lavarini coach had many opponents he encountered in the quarterfinals. Poland met with the U.S., the champion of the last tournament, and packed its bags after losing the set score 0-3 22-25 14-25 20-25.

Martina Lukasik and Agnieszka Konolevska scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, but Magdalena Stasiak, who should be the "main gun," scored only eight points, failing to overcome the U.S.

The semifinals of women's volleyball are the U.S.-Brazil, Italy-Turkiye. Turkiye defeated China, one of the favorites in the quarterfinals, 3-2 23-25 25-21 26-24 21-25 15-12 after a close game going all the way to the full set. Daniele Santarelli, the coach of the Turkiye national team following Guedetti, continued his successful career once again following the 2022 World Championship.

He led Serbia to victory at the World Championships and this time brought Turkiye to the semifinals of the first Olympics.

Meanwhile, the semifinal match was confirmed one day before the women's event in the men's event. The host country France will face Italy and the U.S. will face Poland. Both France and Italy were scolded by Germany and Japan, who competed in the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, the two teams lost the first and second sets in succession to the opponent team, but ended up losing the third, fourth and fifth sets, ultimately achieving a dramatic come-from-behind victory. The semifinal match for the men's team will take place on July 7 in Korean time.
