Welcome to CourseKata! CourseKata is a comprehensive program being used to teach statistics and data science in both colleges and high schools throughout the U.S. The program includes an online, interactive textbook - with more than 1500 formative assessment questions and embedded coding exercises - and a library of in-class materials (presented as cloud-hosted Jupyter notebooks) that are used to support lesson implementation, authentic assessment, and student projects. Students learn core statistical concepts and how to do basic data analysis using R (a statistical programming language).
CourseKata study groups give you a chance to experience the CourseKata curriculum as a student. Maybe you love math but have not done much coding. No worries, CourseKata is there with you as you learn to code and share that knowledge with students. We have lots of experience with teachers who don't know how to code - yet! The best way to learn about CourseKata is to join a Study Group. Study groups consist of 9 one-hour sessions and some homework you can work on in between.
CourseKata Study Groups are 100% free and all interested teachers are welcome to attend. In our summer study groups, the one-hour sessions are distributed over 3 weeks. The first session is an overall introduction to CourseKata. The next 6 sessions cover chapters 1 to 6 of the CourseKata textbook (one chapter per session). Sessions 8 and 9 cover more practical details of actually teaching the curriculum, e.g., how to install the CourseKata textbook in your school's LMS.
All sessions are held on Zoom. You're welcome to attend just some of the sessions, though we encourage you to try to make the first two. After that, attend whatever fits into your summer plans. And do let us know if you have any questions about CourseKata - just send us an email at info@coursekata.org.
