Taylor Swift's Super Bowl ratings rise

Initial estimates by several news outlets show Sunday night's Super Bowl is expected to set a record viewership of more than 120 million viewers. Official figures will be released by ratings agency Nielsen on Tuesday.

The NFL's record-breaking ratings, where regular-season games drew an average of 17.9 million viewers, the most since 2015, are already expected to have a year above average.

Contributing factors include nail-biting excitement from the Super Bowl, the second-ever overtime Super Bowl, a draw on the Usher halftime show and false rumors about Usher Protégé Justin Bieber's halftime appearance.

But of course, everyone knows the real reason.

SWIFT KICK
Taylor Swift, the greatest pop star of the 21st century so far, has attracted millions of female Gen Z viewers to CBS Sports.

"Taylor Swift did what her father was going to do for 23 years in a matter of months," wrote @jmckenziee on Twitter. "I'm absolutely willing to pay attention to the Super Bowl."

Twitter/X user @rnadwony wrote, "First Taylor Swift Ball in Decades... I'm staying up all night to watch the er Super Bowl," he repeated.

Millions of Sweeties took to social media to track their idol's progress during a 12-hour flight to LAX from Tokyo's Haneda Airport, where her private jet had a "Eras Tour" concert on Saturday.

After landing at 3:30 p.m. PT, Swift spent the night in Los Angeles, then took another private jet to Las Vegas the next day.

Swift arrived at Harry Reid International Airport to play and cheer for her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, according to a press release distributed by the NFL at 2:48 p.m. on Sunday.

CBS Sports cameras flashed to Swift and watched the game from a private suite with friends and family, making it the subject of a popular Super Bowl prop bet.

Photographed inside Swift's suite were musicians Lana Del Rey and Ice Spice, actress Blake Lively, and former Beatle Paul McCartney, who popped up to greet his third wife, Nancy.

Swift's total screen time during the game was 53 seconds, which would have cost $7 million if it were such a long Super Bowl commercial.

Judging by social media numbers, the Super Bowl was a great game, right back to Taylor Swift. According to Digital Tracker Social Blade, the megastar gained more Instagram followers just by appearing on Sunday than Kelce (61,000) and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (41,000) combined.

Naturally, many sports fans took to Twitter/X to express their anger at the attention Swift received while attending the NFL's biggest game of the year.
