Ohtani, a ‘superstar’ recognized even by his peers MLB ‘Best Player’ honor
Major League 'superstar' Shohei Ohtani (LA Dodgers) was recognized as the 'best player' by his colleagues.
According to a survey released by the American sports media outlet 'The Athletic' on the 10th (local time), Ohtani was ranked first in the best player category with the support of 46% of 102 respondents.
Ronald Acuña Jr. (Atlanta Braves) ranked second with 26.5%, and Mookie Betts (Dodgers) and Aaron Judge (New York Yankees) ranked third with 8.8% each.
The survey was conducted on about 100 people from 18 major league teams and asked about various items other than 'best player'.
When asked about the 'most overrated player', outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (Miami Marlins) ranked first with 20.3%.
Chisholm Jr. debuted in the major leagues in 2020 and has never recorded a batting average in the .300 range. Nonetheless, she became the cover model for the video game MLB The Show last year.
Second place went to LA Angels infielder Anthony Rendon (10.2%). The Atlanta Braves were ranked first as the team that players wanted to join. Atlanta received 12.7% of support, beating the Boston Red Sox (9.3%), Dodgers and Texas Rangers (8.1%). The media explained, “Atlanta is a southern team with many prestigious university teams, and many MLB players grew up cheering for Atlanta.” When asked which team was the worst, the Oakland Athletics came in first place with an overwhelming 40% of the votes. Oakland is a representative 'small market' team in Major League Baseball, and has recently been pursuing a relocation. After that, the Chicago White Sox were in second place and the Angels were in third place.
