Starting in the SF match → Groundball for the first time at bat

Pittsburgh announced that it had registered Bae Ji-hwan on the roster ahead of the San Francisco Giants match, which began at 7:40 a.m. on the 22nd (Korea time) at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bae immediately started as the ninth batter in the center field, and hit opposing pitcher Logan Webb's first pitch with two outs and first base at the first batter's box, but he was out on a ground ball to the second base.

Having posted a batting average of 0.231, two homers, 24 steals, 32 RBIs and 54 runs in 111 games last season, Bae injured his hip during this year's spring camp. Having started this season on the disabled list, Bae still played for the Indianapolis Indians, a Triple-A club under his team, instead of going to the big leagues after recovering.

In 27 Triple-A games, Bae hit hard with a batting average of 0.367 with four homers, seven steals, 15 RBIs, 23 runs scored, and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of 1.030. However, as he failed to advance to the big leagues, fans were frustrated, and he took the opportunity just two months after the opening of the season.

With Bae Ji-hwan returning to the big league, the number of Korean players playing in the major league this season has increased to two, including Kim Ha-sung (28, San Diego Padres). Earlier, Lee Jung-hoo made his Major League debut this year in San Francisco and was playing as a main player, but he ended this season when he decided to have surgery due to a left shoulder injury.
