Masan Yongma High School pitcher Jang Hyun-seok, one of the biggest names in high school, has decided to challenge the Major League Baseball (MLB).
Jang Hyun-seok's management company, Ricoh Sports Agency, said on Jan. 1, "After long consideration, Jang Hyun-seok has decided to challenge the major leagues without submitting an application to the KBO draft."
Jang said, "I apologize for making many people wait while my residence was being decided. Both the KBO and Major League Baseball were my dreams, so it was very difficult for me to decide. However, my desire to challenge the world's top stage made me make up my mind to challenge the Major League Baseball."
As a result, Jang will not submit an application for the KBO's 2024 Rookie Draft and will continue to negotiate with major league clubs.
Born in 2004, the right-handed pitcher, who stands at 1.90 meters tall and weighs 90 kilograms, throws a fastball up to 157 kilometers per hour (km/h) and is considered to have good command of his pitches and game management skills. Although he is still in high school, he was selected to the national team for the Hangzhou Asian Games in September.
