If emptiness is an ocean, it would be neither bottomless nor shallow, as it doesn't have any concept of "bottom" in the first place. The divers will only know its depth according to their limited capacities, through direct experience.
Who am I? What is this world? What's my relation to it? What exists and what do not exists?
These questions appeared in my mind once again after fully exhausting all webtoon chapters and blowing up countless trading accounts. It is only now that I realize, I haven't got a single idea how to answer such questions.
Sure, I can try to answer them in terms of logic and how other people see me but then those answers would be meaningless, as they are not my own. Everything is ever-changing, with infinite interpretations. Thus, one is undefined, the world cannot be grasp, and one's relation to the world is inconceivable. Like the ocean of emptiness, we can only understand the truth of this world according to our capacities, and only through direct experience.
Indeed, I know this feeling well. It's the same feeling as seeing yourself in a dream, moving according to the scenario. It's the feeling of being watched, except the watcher and the one being watched is the same. It's like there's a silent invisible entity watching your every move, but you're that same entity.
It's truly mind-boggling, seeing how everything keeps beginning and ending, including all our stories and thoughts, even this world, our own identities, and even our own body. We see and observe it all, throughout eternity, possessing countless variegated bodies through untold lifetimes, yet we never seem to come to an end.
(Yes, I've finished the 2400-paged "Flower Ornament Scripture", where I learned inconceivable untold number of vocabularies as many as atoms in countless buddha-lands. Such masterpiece is well-nigh mythical, nothing short of a legendary work like the Urantia Book.)
It's funny, seeing how we got so worried and worked up about something that will soon be forgotten and become a faint memory. It's fascinating how we exaggerate the current events as if there's no such thing as tomorrow, as if nothing will ever change. It's definitely ridiculous how we keep searching for something that's inside our pockets all along.
Ever since virtual reality became a thing, the distinction between what exists and do not exists has become blurry. The webtoon stories I read feel as real as my thoughts, as real as my senses. They may neither be dimensional or practical yet they still completely real, at least to me. The dreams we have are no less than real when we are dreaming. They seemed to become unreal when we wake up. Indeed, it's clear as day that the boundaries between existents and non-existent are non-existent (lol). Perhaps it's better to say that objects neither exists nor do not exist.
When contemplating difficult things such as these, it's best to leave it to wordless contemplation — without thinking or referring to any words, concepts, or logic. What's important isn't to explain or make sense of life but to directly experience it for ourselves.
"This article is short, simple, and empty —just like life."
