'Super-reading ghost' Ding Hao "wants to win more" after Samsung Flower Cultivation win

The calm Ding Hao, 23, 9th dan, has won the Samsung Flower Farming Championship. The victory came after a hard-fought battle with 25-year-old Sheilhao.

Ding Hao defeated Xie Shenghao 9th dan in a 300-move game in the third round of the Samsung Flower Farming World Go Masters 2023 Final at the Samsung Fire Global Campus in Goyang City, Gyeonggi-do, on Monday. With an overall record of 2-1, Ding Hao captured the Samsung Flower Farming title for the first time. The prize money was 300 million won.

Ding Hao now has two major World Chess titles, having won the Samsung Hwa Jae Jae after winning the El Ji Bae in February. In his match against Sheilhao, he used up the same two-hour time limit as in Games 1 and 2, and held on with five one-minute second reads to defeat Sheilhao with one hour left. Despite being pushed to the brink, she was able to withstand the pressure from the shorthanded Xue Sheilhao with strong concentration.

She was looking for her second World Chess Championship trophy after winning the 2018 title, but after finding herself half a move behind, she pulled out the stones. The runner-up took home 100 million won.

Ding Hao, who was making his first appearance in the main draw of the Samsung Flower Farming Championship, defeated Hong Seong-ji 9-dan, Kim Seung-jin 4-dan, Kim Myung-hoon 9-dan and Park Jung-hwan 9-dan in the round of 32 before culminating in his victory over Sheol-hao.

"This victory was unexpected," Ding Hao said after the tournament. I was not feeling well during the tournament. I was not feeling well during the tournament, and I am still dizzy from my narrow victory in the final." He also said, "I was most impressed with my match against Park Jung-hwan. I made a mistake at the beginning, but I pulled myself together and managed to turn it around. I think I was lucky because I don't get many chances like that," he added.

Ding Hao concluded, "My goal is to win a few more titles in the future. "I didn't set any specific goals because I believe that high expectations lead to high disappointments. I didn't expect much from this tournament either, but I was happy to win. I hope I can improve my skills and win more titles in the future."

At the awards ceremony held immediately after the final, Samsung Fire Vice President Hong Seong-yoon and Korea Origin Secretary General Yang Jae-ho congratulated the players on their achievements.

Now in its twenty-eighth edition, the event has been won 14 times by host Korea, 12 times by China, and twice by Japan. The strong Chinese winds this time around foreshadowed stronger continental winds in the future.

Meanwhile, instead of returning to China, Sheilhao will travel to Busan, South Korea, to face Korea's Won Sung-jin 9 in the second round of the 25th Nongshim Shin Ramen Bae World Championship on Tuesday. Sheerhao has won three consecutive matches at the Nongshim Bae.
