Lee Kang-in generation + wild card.

South Korea's U-24 (under 24) national soccer team, led by head coach Hwang Sun-hong, will compete in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September. The competition was originally scheduled to be held in September last year, but was postponed for a year due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in China. For this reason, the age of participation has been expanded from U-23 to U-24. The name of the competition will remain the same as the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

The Korea Football Association will announce the final entry for the Hangzhou Asian Games at 2 p.m. on the 14th at the Football Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Shortly after the announcement, Hwang Sun-hong's press conference is also scheduled. The Korea Football Association is known to have already submitted the final list to the Korea Sports Council.

Attention is focused on who the three wild cards are. As the men's soccer event at the Asian Games is an age-specific competition, there is an age limit of under 24. However, the three wild cards consist of players with no age limit.

It is a wild card that is selected with high expectations and burdens. South Korea won the gold medal at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games by selecting Son Heung-min (Tottenham), Hwang Ui-jo (Nottingham), and Cho Hyun-woo (Ulsan Hyundai) as wild cards. It is such a successful case that it is called the "wild card of all time."

Wild cards played a big part in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. Kim Shin-wook (Kitche SC), Park Joo-ho (retired), and Kim Seung-kyu (Al-Shabab) participated as wild cards and won the gold medal with the "Golden Generation" born between 1991 and 1992. South Korea will try to win three consecutive Asian Games.

The final number of entries for the Hangzhou Asian Games is 22, an increase of four from the previous year's competition (18). Of these, 19 are limited to those born after January 1, 1999, and only the remaining three are classified as wild cards and selected as those born before 1999.

Coach Hwang Sun-hong, who returned from two away games in China in June, said at the arrival hall, "I will pick one striker, midfielder, and defender with a wild card." Seol Young-woo (Ulsan Hyundai), Baek Seung-ho, and Park Jin-seop (Jeonbuk Hyundai) are mentioned as wild card candidates.

Meanwhile, Lee Kang-in, Jung Woo-young (Freiburg), Hong Hyun-seok (Hent), Song Min-kyu (Jeonbuk Hyundai), Um Won-sang (Ulsan Hyundai), Um Ji-sung (Gwangju FC), Ko Jae-hyun (Daegu FC), Ko Young-joon (Pohang Steelers), Lee Tae-seok, and Lee Han-beom (FC Seoul) are likely to be selected as pre-1999.
