Casino Vaccination Situation in the United States
Just days after Hara's New Orleans casino became the first U.S. casino to require proof of a COVID-19 vaccination (or a negative COVID test), other casinos are starting to do the same. This week's gambling news takes a look at the Las Vegas COVID situation and the exciting development of New York City casinos where vaccinations are now mandatory.
Vaccinations have also become mandatory in New York casinos, as some parts of Las Vegas require COVID-19 vaccinations. As of Aug. 18, guests and employees at New York City casinos will have to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter the facilities. And testing in effect will begin on Sept. 13. Visitors ages 12 and older who refuse to do so will be fined $1,000 to $5,000.
Meanwhile, in Las Vegas News, some residents might get paid for their vaccinations, so they might get a little extra spending! This may sound strange, but the Clark County Commission is pushing for a pilot program in which people living in and around Sin City will be paid $100 for their COVID-19 vaccinations. Apparently, the county has some extra funding from the federal Infectious Disease Relief Fund. That total is $100,000, and the commission believes the best use is to pay up to $1,000 for your coronavirus vaccination. In a rather ominous statement, commissioner Tik Segoblom said, "Going from Raiders' stadium to MGM, there are a lot more places you can't work or visit if you can't show that you're vaccinated."
