Macau Game Workers 2 to 1


Macau's gaming industry employs about twice the number of people working in Macau's public administration, official data show.

According to a quarterly survey by the statistics and census bureau of Macau, Macau had a total of 58,123 workers in the gaming sector in the second quarter of 2015, of which 57,422 were full - time employees.

By the end of September, the total number of administrative officials was 29,367, showing statistics from administrative officials and the Civil Service Bureau.

Macau has as many card dealers as government officials. In the second quarter of 2015, the city's casinos employed a total of nearly 25,100 card dealers.

Gaming is Macau's largest direct employer and the largest single contributor to the local economy, measured by revenue. Other government data show that Macau's retail, hospitality and food and beverage industries are indirectly creating thousands of jobs.

The total number of employed people in Macau stood at 394,500 in the three months to Oct. 31. The unemployment rate was 1.9%, which was considered full employment by international standards.
