Jeonbuk "Respect the dismissal of the federation's request for forfeit, and hope that a similar situation will not recur"

Jeonbuk vs Pohang match report.

Professional soccer's K League 1 Jeonbuk Hyundai has said it respects the KFA's decision to dismiss its request for a forfeit and hopes that similar situations will not recur in the future.

The club said on social media on July 7, "We have received a response that we do not meet the requirements for a forfeit (in relation to the K League 1 Pohang Steelers match) and post-match disciplinary action. Regrettably, we have decided to respect the decision and opinion of the Korean Football Association," the club said in a statement.

"We hope that the rules will be interpreted and applied fairly and consistently in the future to prevent similar situations like this from occurring again."

Earlier, the KFA announced on July 7 that it had rejected Jeonbuk's request to correct the result of the K League 1 35th Round match between Jeonbuk and Pohang, which took place at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on June 28, as a 0-3 forfeit loss for Pohang.

In the first 26 minutes of the game, Pohang's Kim In-sung was substituted for Shin Kwang-hoon, but the referees mistook Kim Yong-hwan, who was out of the field due to injury, as the substitute and let Shin Kwang-hoon in instead of Kim In-sung.

The referees then realized the mistake and sent Kim In-sung off in the 31st minute of the first half to speed up the game. Jeonbuk appealed the decision, arguing that Kim In-sung and Shin Kwang-hoon were ineligible players under the K League Playing Regulations and that the result should be corrected to a 0-3 forfeit loss for Pohang.

However, the KFA decided that Kim In-sung and Shin Kwang-hoon did not fall under the definition of an ineligible player due to Pohang's lack of fault, and therefore did not accept Jeonbuk's appeal.
