GS Caltex and Hyundai Engineering & Construction are relaxed

The V-League women's foreign player tryout organized by the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) kicked off in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 7th (Korea time). The tryout will last for three days until the 9th, and 37 people from 15 countries participated, with 3 out of 40 people who went through the club's preliminary evaluation absent. Among the existing foreign players, including MOMA (Hyundai Engineering & Construction), Willow (Heungkuk Life Insurance), Silva (GS Caltex), and Bukirich (Korea Expressway Corporation), 41 people, including 4 applicants, await the club's choice.

Starting with medical checkups, the team has started a full-fledged competition. Club officials and coaching staff closely watched a local doctor conduct checkups on players. "Detailed strategy for selecting players is a secret," said manager Ko Hee-jin of the association. After renewing his contract with Apogit Spiker Mega, the Asian quarter, the association conducted intensive inspection on outside heater resources.

In the afternoon, some physical examinations were conducted. His weight, running jump, and standing reach were measured. On the day, he will measure standing jumps and heights. After warming up through stretching, the players earnestly started practicing. As most of the players were wing strikers, a setter from the site participated in the exhibition, and the team played a 6 to 6 game without Libero.

After the practice matches, players took a situation-setting test to assess their abilities. Outside heaters engaged in training to receive, attack, hit attack again, and participate in blocking. Players who strength is serving also sometimes hit serve. IBK Industrial Bank coach Yeo Oh-hyeon and Jeonggwanjang coach Lee Kang-ju displayed impressive defense to help players evaluate each other, drawing applause. Hyundai Engineering & Construction coach Jang Yeong-ki and Pepper Savings Bank senior coach Lee Yong-hee constantly hit the ball.

Overall, players have not been able to improve to their best condition. The prevailing view is that players do not appear to be much better than last year. "As it is only the first day of the tryout, we will have to wait and see until tomorrow. I will also check the skills of players that I have paid attention to again," Pepper Savings Bank coach Jang So-yeon said.

IBK Industrial Bank manager Kim Ho-chul and Marcello Avon Dan-ja also seem to be struggling, saying, "Overall, I don't see good players compared to last season." The possibility of nomination seemed high, but some clubs regretted that Dejaret Madan (22, Cuba), who was absent due to the transfer of the national team, could not attend.

GS Caltex and Hyundai Engineering & Construction seemed relatively relaxed, with Silva and Moma highly likely to renew their contracts. Korea Expressway Corporation, which Bukirich requested, also tried to find a new face but was agonized. "If today's players are in the same condition, we should consider renewing our contract with Bukirich," said Kim Jong-min, manager of Korea Expressway Corporation. The renewal of existing players will be decided by 11 p.m. on Friday in Korean time.

Still, some players drew attention. In the preliminary preference survey, Barbara Zavic (29, Croatia, 1m94cm), and Marta Matteiko (25, Poland, 1m98cm), the tallest player, received good scores in height. Merelin Nicolova (21, Bulgaria, 1m88cm), who received the first choice from the two clubs, displayed fast swings and strong serve. Anastasia Guera (28, 1m86cm), a former Italian national team player, and Victoria Danchak (24, 1m92cm) also attracted attention.

The team will hold its second exhibition game in the afternoon after holding interviews with coaches. After the last exhibition game on Thursday, a player who will play in the Korean pro league will be selected through the draft.

The draft will begin at 3 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Korean time) on Saturday. Players will be selected after drawing a random chance in reverse order in the last season's rankings.
