Longshot Bang Shin-sil leads Blue Canyon 2R alone

Bang Shin-sil, who stands tall as a "KLPGA sign," is about to win her first KLPGA championship.

At the second round of the KLPGA Tour Blue Canyon Ladies Championship held at Phuket Blue Canyon Country Club (par 72) in Thailand on Saturday, Bang picked four birdies without a bogey and shot a 4-under 68. Bang, who recorded 8-under 136 for two days, jumped to the lead from a tie for sixth and will play in the championship group on the last day of the competition.

Bang Shin-sil, who won two KLPGA tours, has been on a scary rise this season, finishing second by one stroke at the KLPGA Singapore Women's Open last week.

Bang started to elevate his ranking by reducing two pars in the first half, but changed the mood to birdie at the 15th hole (par 5). Bang finished the second round with a birdie at the 18th hole (par 4), and is ready to win for the third time in his career.

"It was windy today, so I could stand it," said Bang, who confessed that she was vulnerable to heat. "I will focus more on the accuracy of tee shots than distance tomorrow and try to attack the course." However, chasing after the runner-up group is also far from easy. Hong Jeong-min, who is participating in the European Ladies Professional Golf Tour (LET), also reduced four pars to tie for second place with Choi Min-kyung with 7-under 137 in the middle.

Lee Ye-won, who won the KLPGA Tour's top prize money, the grand prize, and the lowest par prize last year, also tied for seventh with Park Min-ji with a 5-under 139 overall.
