Kim Min-gyu (41), who competed in the men's under-90kg competition during the Kurashi competition at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at the Xiaoshan Linfu Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China on the 2nd, won the silver medal after finishing as runner-up to Sadegh Ajaran (Iran).

Kurashi is a sport widely enjoyed in Central Asia and the Middle East, including Uzbekistan, and has been held as an official event at the Asian Games since the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games.

Korea, which did not have a prize winner during the Jakarta competition, succeeded in winning its first ever prize on the 30th of last month with Kwon Jae-deok in the men's under-66 kg class and Jeong Jun-yong winning bronze medals in the men's over 90 kg class, and also produced its first finalist in two days.

On this day, Min-gyu Kim, who defeated Ajmal Ishaq Zai (Afghanistan) in the quarterfinals, defeated Khaknazar Nazarov (Tajikistan) in a close match in the semifinals and secured a medal.

In the final against Ajarang, Korea's Kurashi aimed for his first ever Asian Games gold medal, but lost and had to be content with a silver medal.

Korea's Kurashi, who faced difficulties in the first competition with two athletes five years ago, won three medals with seven athletes participating in this competition for the second time.

Most of the Kurashi athletes active in Korea are former judo athletes, and Min-gyu Kim was also a judo athlete.

He also has experience as a member of the national judo team, including participating in the Universiade competition.

He participated for the first time in his 40s at the Asian Games, where he had not been able to participate as a judo player, and even won a medal.

Currently, he runs a judo gym and focuses more on his role as a “leader.”

He said, “If I have the physical strength, I want to try a little more, but this time was very difficult.”

"I want to make it possible for them to participate in the Olympics," he said.

In the Kurash competition, where a total of six events were held, Uzbekistan, the host country, performed best with four gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal, followed by China (2 gold medals) and Iran (gold gold). https://www.geogebra.org/p/BJQAJHexBw
