Park Ji-young's heavy prize money with major Hanwha Classic upset win
Park Ji-young tied 6 birdies and 2 bogeys for 4-under 68 in the fourth round on the final day of the tournament at Jade Palace Golf Club Seo-dong Course (par 72, 6,797 yards) in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do on the 25th.
Park Ji-young, who finished 13-under 275 in the final round on a difficult course, beat second-place Hwang Yoo-min (21, 10-under 278) by three strokes to win the major.
Park Ji-young, who joined the third three-win champion of the 2024 season after Lee Ye-won (21) and Park Hyun-kyung (24), who won three games in the season in early and late June, tied for first place in the multiple wins category.
Park Ji-young won the Medi Hill and Hankook Ilbo Championship, which ended on April 14, and the Kyochon 1991 Ladies Open on May 5, becoming the first to win two games this year.
However, he left the course for about a month due to a sudden appendectomy in mid-May and returned in June.
Park Ji-young, who quickly recovered her performance after the surgery, won the runner-up prize (joint second) at the BC Card and Hankyung Ladies Cups in June. Notably, Park displayed stellar performance in the Jeju Samdasoo Masters (joint sixth) and The Heaven Masters (joint fifth) in the second half of the year, heralding her victory.
Park Ji-young, who participated in Hanwha Classic this week for the 13th time this season, passed the cut in all 13 competitions she participated in, and won the top 10 seven times, including three wins, one runner-up and one third place.
Park Ji-young, who made her KLPGA regular tour debut in 2015, reported her first win at the 2016 S-Oil Champions Invitational, and this is her 10th career regular tour victory.
He tied for 12th (10 wins) along with Kang Chun-ja, Ryu So-yeon, and Park Sung-hyun in the individual number of wins.
In addition, it is the second time Park Ji-young has won a major championship after the KB Financial Star Championship in 2023.
Above all, Park Hyun-kyung, Yoon Na-na (21), who recently emerged as "Troika," and Park Ji-young, who were a little behind Lee Ye-won, made the individual title competition more intense with their overwhelming skills in this competition.
Park Ji-young, who added the thickest major championship prize (winning prize money of KRW 306 million) this season to KRW 956.12,717 in the season's prize money, is expected to surpass KRW 1 billion.
Lee Jung-min, the winner of the 46th KLPGA Championship in the previous major tournament, received 234 million won in prize money, and Noh Seung-hee, the winner of the 38th Korean Women's Open, received 300 million won, respectively.
In addition, the prize money for winning the KB Financial Star Championship, in which Park Ji-young will defend the title in September, is 216 million won, and the prize money for winning the Hite Jinro Championship, in which Lee Ye-won will compete as the defending champion, is 270 million won, respectively.
