Opened a new route linking Macau to Incheon International Airport near Seoul.
According to a report in the Macau Daily Times newspaper, Jeju Air will now fly daily round trips between Korea's largest airport and Macau with a flight time of less than four hours.
Eric Fong, head of marketing at Macau International Airport, told the newspaper that Korean tourists have recently become an important source of income for Macau and a popular destination for 50.8 million Chinese tourists, especially during the winter.
"According to statistics, Korean passengers heading to Macau International Airport grew 85 percent from January to September this year," Pong told the Macau Daily Times. "[The new Jeju Air] will start service in time to meet the peak Christmas season [to Korea] in December."
Jeju Air began operating in June 2006 and currently has 25 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, operates to Jeju Island, close to Jeju Island, including Tokyo, Saipan, Bangkok, and Hong Kong, and operates to five cities in mainland China, including Beijing and Yantai, and recently announced plans to launch Hainan Island using Sanya Phoenix International Airport.
"Every time Jeju Air launches a new route, it is not only creating an opportunity to increase its market size and market share, but it is also always a win-win situation for Jeju Air and its destination," Lee Seok-joo, vice president of Jeju Air, told the Macau Daily Times. Expect more tourists from Korea and Jeju Air."
