Ohtani, MLB Player of the Month for the second consecutive time "a natural result"

NL Player of the Month is Bellinger... Impressed after 4 years and 4 months

'Baseball Genius' Shohei Ohtani (29, Los Angeles Angels) was selected as the 2023 American Professional Baseball Major League (MLB) Player of the Month for the second consecutive time.

Ohtani was named the July American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) announced by MLB Network on the 3rd (Korean time).

He won the honor for two consecutive months following the monthly MVP in June.

It is the fourth time in his career that Ohtani has been awarded the monthly MVP.

Ohtani played in 23 games as a hitter during the month of July, batting average of 0.282 and hitting 9 home runs, leading the team's batting lineup.

His OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) reaches 1.152.

And that's not all.

Ohtani made four starts as a pitcher and was responsible for 25⅓ innings, posting a record of 2-2 with a 4.97 ERA.

MLB.com said, "Ohtani's award was a natural result," and "Ohtani's incredible performance continued in July."

Ohtani continues to feel a hot blow in August.

He played as the designated hitter twice in an away game against the Atlanta Braves held at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and made a big success with 2 hits, 1 run and 1 walk in 3 at-bats.

Ohtani raised his season batting average to 0.307.

The Angels lost 5-12.

The National League (NL) Monthly MVP was won by Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger (28).

He posted a batting average of 0.400, 8 homers, and 24 RBIs for one month.

It is the first time since April 2019 that Bellinger has been named the monthly MVP.

Bellinger played a big role as the best player in the league, winning the 2017 NL Rookie Award and the 2019 NL MVP, but suffered from extreme sluggishness from the 2020 season and crashed.

He also suffered the humiliation of being kicked out of the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 2022 season.

But Bellinger made a splendid comeback with the Cubs.

He is regaining his former glory with a batting average of .317, 16 homers and 49 RBIs in 76 games this season.

The AL Pitcher of the Month was right-hander Tyler Glasnow (29, Tampa Bay Rays), and the NL Pitcher of the Month was right-hander Corbin Burns (28) of the Milwaukee Brewers.
