"The only one who stopped him was a full-term wife."

"There was only his wife who could stop the running Scheffler."

The British Telegraph described the scene in which he overwhelmed his rivals at the Masters Tournament and expressed that no one could stop him except his wife, who was about to give birth. Scheffler had vowed even before the opening of the tournament that he would run home immediately no matter what ranking he was in the middle of the tournament if he had colic with his wife, Meridis.

Fortunately, the situation did not happen to the Schaeffler couple. At the final round of the 88th Masters Tournament held at Augusta National Golf Club (par 72) in Augusta, Georgia on Saturday, Schaeffler reduced four pars by seven birdies and three bogeys to 11-under 277 overall, beating rookie Ludvig Overy of Sweden, who ranked second in his first major tournament, by four pars to win the title. The prize money is 3.6 million U.S. dollars.

After winning his first major championship at the 2022 Masters, Scheffler regained the green jacket that he gave up to John Rahm (Spain) last year, securing three wins in the PGA Tour season and nine wins (two major championships). Having grabbed two wins in his fifth Masters appearance, Scheffler has achieved multiple wins in the shortest period of time, following two wins in three attempts by Horton Smith (USA), the winner of one and three Masters events.

After winning back-to-back Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship last month, Scheffler failed to win for the third consecutive time as a joint second at the Texas Children's Houston Open, but reaffirmed his world's strongest performance at the ensuing Masters. Scheffler, the PGA Tour's rookie of the year in 2020, has opened his era with nine wins in three years since his first win at the Phoenix Open in 2022.

Scheffler, who started as a one-shot lead, tied for the lead with Colin Morikawa, Max Homa of the U.S., and Overy at one point in the early days, but took the lead with 8-under par overall with birdie at Hole 8 (par 5), and birdie at Hole 9 (par 4). Scheffler, who completed three consecutive birdies at Hole 10 (par 4), rather widened the gap while his competitors wrote big scores and collapsed as they entered the Amen Corner (Holes 11-13). Having become a three-shot lead with birdies at Hole 13 and 14, he made a 3-meter birdie putt at Hole 16 (par 3) to seal the victory.

Scheffler, who wore a green jacket with the help of last year's champion Jon Rahm, expressed his special gratitude to his caddie Ted Scott and his family for helping him win the championship and said, "I will run home right away. It is a very special moment for me and my wife, and words cannot describe how I feel as a father for the first time with the victory at the Masters."

Max Homa, who tied for third (4-under 284) with Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood of England, paid tribute to Scheffler, saying, "Congratulations, have fun with your child." Bryson DeChambeau of the U.S. and Cameron Smith of Australia tied for sixth (2-under 286) to post the best record for LIV golfers.

Ahn Byung-hoon tied for 16th (2-over 290), the highest by an Asian player, while Kim Joo-hyung and Kim Si-woo tied for 30th (5-over 293). Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, who is ranking second in the world who challenged for the grand slam, tied for 22nd (4-over 292), and John Rahm only tied for 45th (9-over 297), down one notch to fourth in the world rankings. Tiger Woods of the U.S., who has set a new Masters cut in 24 consecutive sessions, finished in the bottom of the 60 players who passed the cut (16-over 304).
