4th place in Japanese history

Wada took the mound as the starting pitcher in the game against the Rakuten Golden Eagles at Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan, on the 22nd, and recorded his second win of the season with three hits, four strikeouts and no walks in seven innings.

Softbank's batters, who scored as many as 23 hits and 21 points the previous day (21st), scored 9 points until the second inning to support the scoring, and Wada threw silently at his own pace.

From the first to the third innings, he had nine consecutive poor hits and perfect marches. In the first inning, he hit two infield grounder and a fly ball to the left field to end the inning with three outs. In the second inning, he struck out the leadoff hitter, and finished the inning with a grounder to the second base and a grounder to the shortstop. In the third inning, he struck out consecutive times and grounded to the second base to end the inning.

He got a hit to left by the leadoff hitter in the fourth inning, but managed to erase the runner with a double play and a grounder to the second base. He then continued the scoreless streak by hitting a fly ball to the right field. He ended the batting line at the center with three outs in the fifth inning at Rakuten's third and fifth innings.

He got a hit to the right field with two outs in the sixth inning, but struck out swinging and striking out. He got a hit by the leadoff hitter in the seventh inning, but finished the inning with a fly ball to the outfield and a groundout to the first base at a double play. It was a perfect pitch that allowed no second base until the seventh inning.

Wada is a franchise pitcher who played for only one team, Softbank, in Japan since his debut with Dai (former Softbank). Wada entered the U.S. in 2012, played in Baltimore Minor League for two years, and played in two major league seasons with the Chicago Cubs from 2014 to 2015.

He returned to Softbank in 2016 and has been a starting pitcher so far. He has 160 wins and 87 losses with a 3.18 ERA in 328 games. Wada recorded eight wins (six losses) last year, marking the first time that a 42-year-old pitcher has recorded eight wins this season in the Pacific League.

Last winter, Wada was almost forced to leave Softbank. Softbank recruited Hotaka Yamakawa, who became an FA from the Seibu Lions, but Wada was later excluded from the compensation player protection list. Although Seibu could have named Wada as a compensation player, Seibu named a player other than Wada when the criticism from Softbank fans was infested.

Wada suffered a blister injury in his finger at the exhibition game, which delayed his first appearance in the first division of the season. Wada took the mound on the 6th against the Nippon-Ham Fighters for the first time in this season. Wada became the winning pitcher by allowing eight hits and four runs in five innings. On the 22nd, he pitched a perfect pitch to win the second game of the season, allowing seven scoreless innings.

The victory marked Wada's 22nd win since the age of 40. She beat Hiroki Kuroda and Tsuyoshi Shimonayagi (21 wins) to rank fourth in overall wins). Masahiro Yamamoto (40 wins), Kimiyasu Kudo (38 wins) and Tadashi Wakabayashi (36 wins) rank second to third in overall wins after the age of 40.
