"I was afraid at first..."
Kim Ha-sung started the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) Los Angeles Dodgers home game at Petco Park in San Diego, California, on the 13th (Korea time), but was hit on the back of his left hand by Walker Buehler's 94.4 miles (152 kilometers) body sinker in the bottom of the fourth inning with one out and runners on first and second bases.
Kim Ha-sung, who complained of extreme pain after being hit by the pitch, walked out to first base and was out at second base when Luis Araes hit an infield grounder. As the pain did not subside even after returning to the dugout, he was replaced by a defense guard in the top of the fifth inning.
According to the San Diego club, Kim Ha-sung underwent an X-ray examination immediately and no major abnormalities were found. However, it is unclear whether he will be able to play in the next game immediately as the back of his hand is swollen and pain remains.
"I was worried and very scared because it was the first time I got hit," Kim said in an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune after the game. "But I felt it getting better as time passed. Now I feel much better." "My back of my hand is still quite swollen. We will know tomorrow whether I will play in the game."
Coach Silt said, "The trainer diagnosed that there was no major problem with the back of Kim Ha-sung's hand and that it would get better and better, so I put him at first base," adding, "I replaced him because I thought he would need time to recover after the airlift shift."
