Great Canadian Ent. CEO Announces Retirement
This week, Great Canadian Entertainment Corporation, one of Canada's largest casino operators, announced that CEO Anthony 'Tony' Rodio will step down as CEO. His position will now be held by Matthew Anfinson, formerly the company's CEO. Jordan Banks was also appointed as the first president.
GCE, formerly known as the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, is an Ontario-based corporation that operates 25 casinos and hospitality venues across Canada. It has properties in Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. With the help of gaming activities and social responsibility program PRUD, the company supports numerous charities and non - profit organizations across Canada.
The gaming giant announced two big things about the management change last Monday. First, the company announced the retirement of Rodio, who would succeed Anfinson, and the game operator appointed Jordan Banks as its first chairman. He will take on the role after receiving customary regulatory approval.
Company board chairman Alex van Hoek thanked Mr. Rodio for his perfect leadership and said he was able to successfully lead a turnaround in recovery and growth while having to address many of the problems posed by the unprecedented closure of casino properties in 2020.
Mr. Van Hawke welcomed Mr. Anfinson as the CEO who will lead the company to a new chapter, saying he has led the top-notch growth across all 25 properties in the casino industry and has been a leader in operations, marketing and analytics.
Meanwhile, Banks is chief executive of technology, sports and media, president of Rogers Sports & Media, vice president and country director of Facebook and Instagram in Canada, and CEO of JumpTV, a leading digital streaming company in professional sports and international TV.
Over the past few months, Great Canadian Entertainment has been pretty busy over the past few months because it has started retail sports betting at its Ontario casinoI did. Less than a month later, Great Blue Heron Casino & Hotel, Pickering Casino Resort, Element Casino Brantford, and Showline Casino Bellville launched a retail sportsbook called the Great Canadian Sports Book and are currently conducting direct bets.
