World Cup, World's Best GK Re-signs with Villa...Until 2029!

Emiliano Martinez will continue to accompany Aston Villa.

"Villa is pleased to announce the news that Martinez has signed a new contract. The World Cup Winner goalkeeper, who is firmly loved by fans, will now stay at Villa Park until 2029," officially announced the renewal of Martinez's contract.

Martinez is Villa's main goalkeeper. A former Arsenal youth player, he also made his professional debut with Arsenal but failed to establish himself. He played for various teams including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Getafe and Reading, and finally settled in Villa in the 2020-21 season and became the main goalkeeper.

Martinez has stood out as the top goalkeeper in the Premier League due to his outstanding reflexes and good positioning. He started all league games in his first season and recorded 15 clean sheets, and has continued to play well ever since. In particular, he showed a lot of good defense thanks to Villa's salty defense last season, and contributed greatly to Villa's advance to the UEFA Champions League.

His value was also displayed on the world stage. Martinez, who had been keeping Argentina's goal since the last Copa America 2021, contributed to his country's victory and also played a key role in the World Cup in Qatar. He led Argentina to the finals by showing tremendous defense and prevented a penalty shootout twice in the finals.

Martinez's march did not stop there. He also won the Copa America 2024. He didn't concede a single goal in the group league, and Martinez's animal reflexes kept making good defense in the tournament. Eventually, Argentina beat Colombia in the final match to win the title. Martinez, who won the Copa America two consecutive championships and the World Cup, rose to the rank of the world's best goalkeeper.

Villa also recognized Martinez as the core of their team and rewarded him with a renewed contract. Martinez has shown good performance since the opening game of the Premier League. Although Martinez conceded a goal through penalty kicks in the match against West Ham United, he saved three times and recovered 10 times, receiving a good evaluation with a score of 7.5 based on the soccer statistics media "Fotmob."
