Philippines-listed DigiPlus says it is not affected by the decree ban

DigiPlus Interactive Corp., a Philippine holding company investing in gaming and leisure businesses including digital bingo and digital sportsbook platforms, said it would not be affected by the ban on offshore online gaming operators announced in the Philippines.

In his State of the Union address on Monday, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced a ban on the previously named POGO.

The Philippine Entertainment Gaming Corporation (Pagcor), a Philippine gaming regulator, has instructed POGO to "stop and stop operations by the end of the year" now known as the "Internet Game License (IGL).

In a comment to GGRAsia on Tuesday, Pagco said the decision to ban offshore gaming operators "will have minimal impact on the Philippine gaming industry as the sector accounts for less than 5% of [total] GGR [gaming gross]."

"Digital is here to reassure stakeholders that it is not affected by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s order to ban all offshore Philippine game operators (POGO)," DigiPlus said in a written release on Tuesday.

"Digital is not a POGO or Internet Game Licensee (IGL) as defined under Philippine law," DigiPlus President Andy Tsui said in a news release.

"It targets customers based in the Philippines," the company said, adding that it should have "physical locations across the country."

As a local gaming operator, DigiPlus had to have real gaming sites across the country before building a digital gaming platform, according to the announcement.

DigiPlus operates digital entertainment platforms BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, Peria Game, and BingoPlus Poker.

The company also said it needs to secure various licenses to offer different games such as traditional bingo, electronic bingo games, electronic game services, sports betting, professional games, and poker.

Cui added, "Fans at DigiPlus will be pleased to know that their top-end platform will continue to operate uninterrupted, unaffected by recent presidential announcements."

DigiPlus reported consolidated revenue of 13.63 billion pounds ($233.2 million) in the first quarter, up 226.3% from a year earlier.

The growth was primarily due to "increased revenues from bingo and electronic games in the retail, casino and real estate sectors," the company said in May.
