Tottenham are in talks with Nice over the transfer of Jean-Claude Todivo, 23.
Tottenham are prioritizing central defensive reinforcements in the upcoming January winter transfer window. The starting XI is fine. Christian Romero and newcomer Micky van der Vaart have worked well together since the start of the season and have provided a solid defense.
The problem is that they don't have a lot of options outside of them. Eric Dier is practically not in head coach Enze Postecoglou's plans. Despite his 6-foot-4 frame, Todibo has quick feet. His strengths lie in covering the space behind the defense and his physicality allows him to win battles with opposing strikers. He has been dubbed the "next Varane" due to his similarities to France international Raphael Varane (Man Utd).
Tottenham are not the only team interested in Todibo. Recently, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Todibo, with Manchester United manager Eric ten Hagh reportedly wanting him.
"Tottenham have held talks with Nice to sign Todibo," a number of British media outlets, including Football London, reported on July 19 (KST).
Todibo is positive about the move to Tottenham. According to the UK's Daily Mail, Todibo's agent is in talks with Tottenham, and Todibo wants to move to Spurs.
Spurs will have four central defenders if they complete the deal. With van der Vaart, Romero, and Davies firmly established in the center of the park, Todivo would join them. Naturally, it would also speed up the process of selling Dier.
