The first female coach in German professional soccer history

The first female coach in German professional football history was born.

FC Ingolstadt 04 announced on its official website on the 2nd that "U-19 coach Jabrina Wittman 32 will temporarily take the helm after Michael Köllner's replacement."

Wittmann, who also drew attention for leading the U-19 team in recognition of his leadership there, became the "first female coach in German professional football history."

Ingolstadt, which was once a member of Germany's Bundesliga in the mid-2010s, is currently in a slump, ranking 11th in the 1. Liga tertiary league. Although he was considered a strong candidate for promotion this season, he showed poor performance in the second half of the year and ultimately decided to replace Köhler at the end.

Ingolstadt's decision to let Wittman take over as head coach, albeit as an acting coach, is unconventional. Wittman spent most of his leadership career with youth teams, and led U-10 and 14 teams before taking charge of U-19 teams in the 2021/22 season.

Wittmann said, "It's a huge opportunity for me. I'm grateful for the trust of Chairman Detmar Byersdropper and General Manager Ivo Griek for taking the first step into the professional world," adding, "Now we'll focus on finishing the season as positively as possible."

"Beatman knows the club better than anyone else. She has been improving constantly in charge of the U-19 team," said Biasdropper, who boldly appointed Wittman as coach with no professional experience.

In fact, Ingolstadt only had five players from the youth team coached by Wittmann in this season's first team. The U-19 team, led by them, also became a strong team, finishing second in the tournament.

"Bitman played an important role in Ingolstadt's growth into a club that symbolizes youth development," Glick said. "Ognen Drakulich, Deniz Zeitler, Emre Gull, Max Plath and Elias Decker, who made the first team this season, represent them. I'm proud of them."
