*Notes above are personal notes from KM4ACK and his experience with various radios. For those just starting to dip their toe into APRS, the UV-Pro is a great place to start. For those who are serious about APRS, nothing beats the D75. Hopefully we will soon see the release of the Kenwood D750.
**The Ailunce HA2 Bluetooth TNC was available after a firmware update. However, as of Feb 2026, the TNC would only work with APRS and didn't allow for Winlink or packet connections. Other radios with Bluetooth TNCs on this list will do both.
The Kenwood HT radios are known to have short battery life. It is recommended to purchase additional batteries for long days when running the GPS and APRS. An alternative is the W0AEZ aftermarket battery. I have repeatedly gotten 16 hours of battery life out of the D75 using this battery. You can save $$ with code KM4ACK at checkout.
