Rincon Casino Open

The Rincon Indian Band opened its latest casino in San Diego County on Jan. 12.

A temporary $14 million (W140 billion) casino opened at 9:30 a.m. It was filled with 1,600 people in 90 minutes, and new arrivals had to line up outside.

At 35,000 square feet, the Rincon Casino is less than a third the size of East County rivals Barona, Cicuan and Viejas. It has 759 slot machines and two snack bars, but no card tables or restaurants. Casino officials plan to add 40,000 square feet of gaming space in the coming months and can accommodate a total of 2,000 slots.

Rincon Casino is the second municipal casino to receive a state liquor license in San Diego County, following Viejas Casino in 1992. Rincon customers can mix drinks, beer and wine while playing various slots in prices ranging from 2 cents to $25.
