Wembanyama Named NBA All-Defensive First Team For The First Time As A Rookie
NBA San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama was selected as the "All Defensive First Team" consisting of the league's best defenders for the first time as a rookie player.
The NBA secretariat said on the 22nd (Korea Standard Time) that Wembanyama received 98 out of 99 votes and was selected as the best defense team for the 2023-24 season. The players who were selected for the All-Defensive First Team along with Wembanyama are Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves), Snake Adebayo (Miami Heat), Herb Jones (New Orleans Pelicans), and Anthony Davis (LA Lakers).
In all NBA seasons, a rookie has been selected as the All Defensive Second Team, but Wembanyama is the first to be selected as the first team. Tim Duncan (1998), David Robinson (1990), Manut Ball (1986) Hakeem Olajuwon (1985) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1970) were selected as the second team when they were rookies.
Wembanyama, who was voted the best rookie of the season by unanimous consent on the 7th of this month, was recognized for his talent once again. Wembanyama from France averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 71 regular league games.
