A nightmare time is approaching for Tottenham Hotspur. They have to send their irreplaceable captain Son Heung-min to the Asian Cup squad in January.

Tottenham and South Korea have yet to agree on a date for Son's departure for the Asian Cup, according to the British newspaper Evening Standard (ES).

While Tottenham would like to keep him for one more day, the national team would like to do the opposite. It's in their best interest to get him here as soon as possible and get him acclimatized.

'Tottenham captain Son Heung-min could be out of action for six weeks in the new year due to his participation in the Asian Cup,' ES reported. Tottenham and the Korea Football Association are discussing Son's schedule ahead of the tournament in Qatar from Jan. 12 to Feb. 10.

South Korea's first game is on Jan. 15 against Bahrain. Jürgen Klinsmann's squad will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on January 2. They will play an exhibition match on Jan. 6 before arriving in Qatar on Jan. 10. If Son wants to start playing, he should arrive in Abu Dhabi on the third or fourth day at the latest. Of course, the most ideal date would be the second.

Tottenham will play Bournemouth in the 20th round of the Premier League on December 31, followed by Burnley in the third round (round of 64) of the FA Cup on January 6 and Manchester United in the 21st round of the Premier League on January 15.

ES said: 'The current best-case scenario is that we leave for Abu Dhabi after the Bournemouth game. The Burnley and Manchester United games are a certainty. If Spurs beat Burnley, he will likely miss the FA Cup fourth round as well. Depending on South Korea's performance at the Asian Cup, Son could also miss Premier League games against Brentford, Everton, and Brighton.

In his absence, Tottenham will have to settle for a front three of Heung-min, Brennan Johnson, Dejan Klosepski, and Brian Hill. Given their options and rotation, they'll actually need to bring in a striker in the January transfer window.

'Son will be a big miss for Tottenham as he has performed well under new manager Enzi Postecoglou this season,' said ES. Son has 10 goals and four assists.
