Spain's Gabi, injured in the A match, is on the operating table 8 months or more to recovery

Barcelona is expected to receive compensation from FIFA

Gabi (Barcelona), a key midfielder on the Spanish national soccer team who collapsed due to an injury during the international match, is on the operating table.

Barcelona, Gabi's team, announced on its website on the 20th (local time), "As a result of a thorough examination, Gabi's right knee cruciate ligament was ruptured and he will undergo surgery."

Gabi started as a starter in the Euro 2024 (European Football Championship) qualifying match against Georgia held the previous day (Spain won 3-1) and was replaced in the 26th minute of the first half.

Gabi, who appealed for victory after colliding with an opponent around the 20th minute of the first half, resumed the game, but collapsed again and left the ground.

Gabi, who suffered damage to his meniscus area along with his cruciate ligament, is expected to take more than eight months to recover. He is essentially done with the season.

If you injure that area, it may take at least 6 months or as long as 10 months to return. Brazilian soccer star Neymar (Al Hilal), who suffered a similar injury earlier this month, will not be able to return until the middle of next year.

As a result, Gabi will be unable to participate in the Euro Tournament finals starting in June next year as well as the 2024 Paris Olympics opening in July.

Gabi, born in 2004, is a next-generation midfielder who will lead Spain's future.

He set the record as the youngest player to play for the Spanish national team against Italy in 2021 (17 years, 61 days) and the youngest player to score in a match against Cero in the 2022 UEFA Nations League (17 years, 304 days).

At his club Barcelona, he also played 111 official games in the first team.

Meanwhile, Barcelona, who lost Gabi during the international match, is scheduled to receive compensation according to FIFA's 'Club Protection Program'.

According to the regulations, the daily compensation is 20,538 euros (about 29 million won), and if a player cannot play for up to a year, Barcelona will receive up to 7.5 million euros (about 10.6 billion won). This is the highest amount paid according to regulations.
